The Blogger Interview Tag with Millicent!

Hi! How are you? Welcome to Touch Of Belle! Let's talk a little bit about your blog! Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

Was this the first question? Sorry! If so, I’m originally from Suffolk, but I currently live in St Andrews where I am in my final year studying Art History.

How old are you?

I am 21.

How and Why did you start your blog?

I started blogging for a variety of reasons. Firstly I annoyed all my friends by constantly commenting on what people are wearing.  Secondly I was also told at school that I would never keep up my art. And thirdly I wanted to challenge my own personal style.  I’ve always taken the second point as a challenge as I used my blog to develop my own artistic skills into fashion illustration. I was unsure of my career path so I’ve tried to use my blog to work out where I want to go. I comment on what I see on the street, on the runways and my own personal style through my own sketches. Because I know my body better than I know anyone else’s I feel challenged to dress in a more exciting manner to make my blog more interesting.

What's your favourite thing about blogging?

My favourite thing about blogging is the community surrounding the blogging world whether it is on Twitter, Facebook or just comments on my blog. I also know that my blog is a little different to most other people’s so I find it interesting to see how others interpret trends through their photography instead of my illustrations.

What is your favourite post to write?

Most often my favourite posts are the ones that the illustrations came out well. I really enjoy researching the runway shows and coming up with my own interpretations. My favourite was the Scottish Chanel show because it was particularly close to me.

How long have you been blogging for?

I have been blogging for nearly two years now.

If you could describe your style in one word, what would it be?

One word? Unpredictable. Not because what I wear is particularly outrageous, but I always try to wear the item that people expect.

Where or who do you look to for style inspiration?

I always find this question hard to answer because I don’t really have a set style. It could be films, music videos, pieces of art, what I see someone wearing or just an idea that pops into my head when I’m trying to sleep. It could literally be anything. Sometimes I feel it is mostly subconscious. The other day I listened to a lot of Amy Winehouse, next thing I knew I had a beehive, winged eye-liner and ridiculous earrings, for example. I’m very fluid when it comes to my style.

What are your must have products?

Vaseline, a Afrocomb, Doc Martens and tweed. I like my hair big, my lips moisturised, my shoes heavy and my back stylishly clad.

What do you enjoy most about blogging?

I have never found blogging a chore. So I love the anticipation of preparing a new post. I can easily put aside a whole day as a break from work to prepare several sketches before writing up the post. What I probably love most is when my friends quote back or comment on a post. I released my RED TROUSERS post just before a party and the amount of people who turned up in the shade made my evening. It’s that support that I enjoy.

Finally, do you have any advice or helpful tips you could give to new bloggers just starting out?

Persevere. Of course there will always be the bloggers who get 500 visitors a day within two months and then score a few newspaper articles within six months. It’s taken me nearly two years to gain more than five visitors a day and every time is over twenty it is still a wonderful surprise. If you are only blogging to get the recognition then you could be sorely disappointed. Also make sure you check your grammar. It’s surprising how often your blog gets judged for spelling mistakes.

Christmas Cracker tag!

Merry Christmas Eve! Can you believe its only 1 sleep until Christmas day!

What's on your Christmas list? I have mainly just asked for surprises but as I am at college studying photography I asked for some photography related presents to help me with my course!

What's on your Christmas agenda?  I am going to get up really early, I mean who doesn’t on Christmas Day?! then go into my sisters room wake her up then we will come back down to my room and wait until at least 7:30 to go to our parents room! Then we will all have breakfast and go into the front room together!

How much Christmas shopping have you done? Lots! I haven’t been as organised this year though and left it all to the last minute! But I got some good presents.. I wont say what just incase my family are reading!

When do you usually put the Christmas tree up? The first or second week of December, some times we put it up a bit later!

Do you have a special outfit planned for Christmas day? I do! I have a red dress which I will pair with some knitted tights, boots and a scarf!

Do you have any plans for boxing day? Well we always just spend time together watching films and just enjoying spending time as a family.

When did you stop believing in Father Christmas? Never! He makes it such a magical time of year and I think when you stop believing the magic just goes!

What is your favourite Christmas scent? I went shopping to Morrison's the other day and found a candle which scent was strawberry and pomegranate and ohhh its lovely!

What do you love most about Christmas?

I love the Christmas music! "In the meadow we could build a snowman!" but other than that spending time with my family and of course the food!

Christmas Films!

Only 3 days to go! If you're not feeling all festive yet, if you watch a few of these films you will be sure to be in the Christmas spirit!

The best Christmas film by far is Elf! I know all the words! "the best way to spread Christmas cheer is signing loud for all to hear!" Will Farrell is so funny and it’s the perfect Christmas film for all the family!

Home Alone. Need I say more? Its one of those feel good films. The perfect film to watch with the family one chilly day in the build up to Christmas!

If you like a Christmas rom-com then Love Actually is a the one for you! It’s a very typical British film in my opinion and it has some of my favourite actors in!

Coming in at a very close second, maybe even joint 1st is NativityIt's a comedy about a group of primary school children who put on a  Christmas nativity! Mr Poppy, where do I even start?! If I was in primary right now I would love him to be my teacher! It’s a real family film that will have you in stiches of laughter!

What are your favourite Christmas films?

Miners Fresh Faced powder!

The Miners Fresh Faced Powder is available in three shades, Translucent Ivory, Soft Sand and Warm Honey. Translucent Ivory is great for those with pale Skin like me, Soft Sand is more for those with a light-medium skin tone and Warm Honey looks great  for those with a darker medium skin tone.

As the Warm honey is too dark for me I have used it a bronzer and I am so pleased with the results!  I'm very pale skinned and I quite often find that  the lightest shade is far to dark for me but Miners get my shade spot on!

This powder is completely matte so it does an excellent job at getting rid of  shine and keeping those oily areas under control, so its great for all skin types.

I found the powder lasted for  around 6 hours before I needed to reapply, when you first apply the powder it gives a nice even coverage that doesn’t appear cakey as it has a silky soft texture which allows you to blend in well.

I think this powder is fantastic. I honestly cannot fault it. It's one of the best powders I've tried for only £3.99 its amazing!

W7 Red Dazzle Nail Varnish!

I’ve turned into a bit of a glitter monster lately, I’m loving glitter on my nails! I was sent some cosmetic products from W7 recently and one of them was this nail polish in Red Dazzle which you can pick up for £1.95 from places such as New Look  and www.thecosmetichouse.co.uk.

It’s a red polish with loads of tiny red glitter particles, the finished look is really pretty and makes me think of Christmas baubles or Dorothy’s ruby slippers! It’s even more sparkly under artificial light so perfect for statement nails on a night out.

The consistency of this polish was quite hard to apply at first as it’s quite thin and so starts to dry really quickly so you have to work fast, but the second coat applies much easier, I found it looks better with a topcoat but if you want a textured feel/look then I would just stick to this nail varnish.

I really love this look, I keep catching myself looking at my nails as they’re just so pretty! It’s a strong contender to be my polish of choice on Christmas day as it’s so festive! Maybe this with a green bracelet and a little gold glitter on top?

Blogger Interview Tag with Nicole!

Hi! How are you? Welcome to Touch Of Belle! Let's talk a little bit about your blog! Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi Gemma, I’m great! Thanks for having me on a Touch of Belle!
My name’s Nicole Smith and I am an Adelaide girl who moved to Melbourne for University… and hasn’t left yet!
One of my biggest passions is to travel so I run two blogs – Stylish Travels (http://www.stylishtravels.com) which focuses on boutique travel, global beauty finds and shopping and my main blog, Bitten by the Travel Bug (http://www.bittenbythetravelbug.com) which chronicles my travel journey as a solo-female traveller.

How old are you?

 ’m 23-years-old

How and Why did you start your blog?

When I started my Journalism degree I decided that I needed to begin a blog, not because online Media was becoming bigger but because writing is my weakness. I’ve worked in radio and television for 8-years but my grammar and sentence structures were appalling.

I also found that there wasn’t much information online for Australian travellers, everything being very American dominated, and that’s just not fair!

I began Stylish Travels only in April when I saw a gap in the market for something that fulfilled the role of a travel and lifestyle product. I mean, lets face it girls – finding the hottest shops or beauty finds is the first thing we do when travelling, right?

What's your favourite thing about blogging?

The friends you get to meet. I moved to London on a work visa and knew no one but because of Twitter I had connected with a few bloggers, including one Australian who was moving there for the exact same reason, and they ended up being a core group of my friends – and still are.

In fact, I met some of my best friends through blogging. It sucks sometimes that we aren’t in the same cities – Becki (http://www.backpackerbecki.com) is in Cambodia and Dylan (http://www.thetravellingeditor.com) is in London – but we’re always a Skype call away from each other.

How long have you been blogging for?

I’ve been blogging on Bitten by the Travel Bug for four-years in December!
Stylish Travels is the baby and I’ve only been blogging over there since April.

If you could describe your style in one word, what would it be?

Versatile.

When travelling for long periods of time I wear a lot of the same thing – jeans, polo shirts, collared shirts with jumpers, moccasins or brogues, and minimal make-up.
In fact, this side of me is a mix between American prep and Oxford British-style.

When I’m back in Australia or taking shorter trips I’m a lot more versatile with my clothing. I LOVE buying quirky jewelry from Wonsuponatime (http://wonsuponatime.com/) to toughen up a floral dress; Smokey-eyes and red lipstick for a night out is a statement, and I’ll be rocking those five-inch statement heels.

Where or who do you look to for style inspiration?

My style inspiration comes from my travels.

Brightly coloured scarves, layered necklaces or ones with a travel motif (think feathers, airplanes or city skylines), or even statement pieces I’ve found while travelling.

I bought an Icelandic lopapeysa (http://www.nordicstore-wool.com/tradition_hand_knitted_wool_pullower_1365_ctg.htm) in Reykjavik, which are hugely popular with locals of all ages but would be considered a little 80s outside of Scandinavia so the trick is to style that for a Melbourne winter without looking like I’ve raided my Mum’s closet.

What are your must have products?

Benefit’s ‘The Porefessional’, Dior Diorshow Iconic Overcurl mascara, Chanel Hydra Beauty Gel Crème, and Lucas’ Pawpaw Cream.

What do you enjoy most about blogging?

Having the privilege to share my journey and experiences with my readers. First and foremost, I write for myself but I do get a little rush every time someone comments or shares my posts.

Finally, do you have any advice or helpful tips you could give to new bloggers just starting out?

Don’t get caught up in what everyone else is doing, just focus on yourself and creating something that you’re proud of.
